What is an HVAC?
Acronym HVAC means heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Sometimes refrigeration “R” is also added and it becomes “HVACR”.HVAC is basically climate control of limited space in relation to the needs of individuals or objects.
An HVAC system is not only air heating and cooling but is also concerned with maintaining indoor air quality (IAQ). Air heating is usually done in winter and similarly, the air is cooled during the summer season. The HVAC system works on the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
These areas will come into play in various components of HVAC. IAQ Indoor air quality is the air quality inside buildings or structures, mostly related to the health and safety of their occupants or objects/objects. IAQ is incorporated or contaminated with gases and uncontrolled mass and energy transfer.
HVAC systems are used for heating and cooling and air condition in homes, buildings, industry, vehicles, aquariums, and many other places. The application of HVAC is increasing with the passage of time and more research is continuing in this area. The HVAC business is also growing at the same pace as the field of application is becoming wider.
What is HVAC System?
The HVAC system is basically an assembly of a variety of devices to provide indoor climate control as well as heating and cooling. HVAC systems include mechanical, electrical, and I and C components to provide comfort to occupants of the building/space or to conserve goods, products, or items placed in the space.
HVAC cooling systems can be integrated with HVAC heating systems or they can be installed separately based on HVAC design. The HVAC system also works on an industrial scale to keep machines operating while maintaining space/hall/room temperature. HVAC water chiller has become essential for any industry for its various requirements.
HVAC System Core Components
An HVAC system may include the following basic components or units.
- HVAC Water Chiller & Heater
- Hot water generator
- Coldwater pump
- Coldwater pump
- Electrical power supply control or motor control center (MCC)
- Water cooling tower
- Piping for cold water and cooling water or condenser side water
- Valves for chilled water and chilled water
- Air handling units (AHUs), heating coils and cooling coils
- Nozzles in the ventilation system (supply ducts and return nozzles)
- Fan coil units (FCUs) and thermostats
- HVAC Diffusers & Grills
- HVAC controls (instrumentation and control components) are installed at various locations
- HVAC software for building HVAC control or building management systems (BMS)
- An assembly of all of the above components forms an HVAC system.
HVAC System Working Principle
Against the backdrop of the HVAC system, an HVAC water chiller produces chilled water that is then circulated throughout the building or space to the cooling coil in air handling units. The blowers transfer air over the cooling coil which is then distributed to different parts of the space or building to provide comfort or protection/furnishings as per HVR design.
Air is distributed through the supply ducts and the return air is collected in the air handling units with the help of return ducts. Coldwater and cooling water pumps provide energy to keep the cold and cold water running.
HVAC valves have also been installed at various points in the piping to reduce the maintenance of HVAC systems or for system control. Air heating can be done with the help of an HVAC heat pump, hot water generator, or simply by a furnace. Some industrial chilies also serve as heaters in the winter season. In the case of heating mode, the heating coils replace the cooling coils.
The cost of HVAC systems for different applications can vary as the heating and cooling space or environment varies. Looking for cheap HVAC systems may involve little research into the types of HVAC systems and HVAC suppliers otherwise you will sigh at the waste of millions of dollars to select the wrong HVAC designers and contractors.
